Features of Kakumin
With its unique elements, “Kakumin” is a typeface that has features of both Gothic and Ming-cho characteristics. The ratio between vertical and horizontal strokes is that of Gothic typefaces, and it employs the characteristics of a Ming-cho typeface in its Uroko (serifs) and angles. At smaller sizes, it has the easy readability of Gothic typefaces, and at larger sizes, its Ming-cho-esque accents are prominent. Its homogeneity and a sense of stability give it a wide range of uses from small headlines to displays.
