Role, A Morisawa font superfamily, is adopted as the official typeface of U.S. design company PRINT
Role, a Latin font superfamily, has been selected to become the official typeface of the U.S. design and media company PRINT. This marks the first time ever that Role has been adopted as an official typeface.

PRINT, a prominent media company with an interest in all aspects of design, was established in 1940. Corporate management and the editorial staff of designers, writers and editors was revamped in 2019, and now includes an honorary chairperson of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, as well as a member who served as art director for The New York Times for over 30 years.
Coinciding with this reorganization, PRINT launched a new corporate website, with Role taking a significant place throughout in titles and body text. Role is a striking and original font family borne of a collaboration between world-renowned font designer Matthew Carter and Asia’s proven font-maker Morisawa. Its wide variety of styles and weights were cited as reasons for its selection.
About “Role”
A Latin superfamily with 200 typefaces, Role was created through the collaborative work of international type designer Matthew Carter, who headed up the project, Kunihiko Okano of Shotype Design, and a team of four Latin type designers. Role is offered in the United States through Morisawa’s digital font download service “Fontelier”. Role’s release date in Japan has yet to be announced.
“Morisawa USA is a font consulting firm”.
