Morisawa Inc. (President and Chief Executive Officer: Akihiko Morisawa and headquartered at 2-6-25, Shikitsuhigashi, Naniwa-ku, Osaka; tel. +81-6-6649-2151, referred to as ‘Morisawa’ below) is launching the digital font download sales service ‘Fontelier’ in the US on May 29 (Wednesday), 2019.

‘Fontelier’ is a service enabling high quality fonts to be purchased for download from one typeface. The name of this service is a name derived from ‘font’ and ‘atelier’ and means ‘platform enabling beautifully designed fonts to be continually created.’
In addition to ‘Vonk’ and ‘Clarimo UD PE,’ the new release offers ‘Role,’ a Latin typeface created through the collaborative efforts of international type designer Matthew Carter from the US state of Massachusetts in the role of main designer, Kunihiko Okano of Shotype Design, and Morisawa. The provision of fonts via domestic and international foundries is also being planned for the future.

Going forward, Morisawa will be strongly promoting the development of multilingual fonts and a global offering via ‘Fontelier.’ Modes of communication that advance globalization, such as the Latin alphabet, Traditional Chinese characters, Simplified Chinese characters, the Korean alphabet, Cyrillic script, the Greek alphabet, Arabic alphabet, Devanagari script, and the Thai alphabet, will be supported via aspects like fonts.

In this launch, usage of ‘Fontelier’ will be enabled in the US states of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington and Washington D.C. An expansion of the target countries and regions, as needed, is planned.
