Morisawa Announces Absorption-Type Merger of JIYUKOBO
Morisawa Inc. (president and CEO: Akihiko Morisawa; headquarters: 2-6-25 Shikitsu Higashi, Naniwa-ku, Osaka; Main: 06-6649-2151; "Morisawa") has completed an absorption-type merger of its wholly owned subsidiary, JIYUKOBO Ltd. (president: Kaoru Ishimoto; headquarters: 2-27 Shimomiyabi-cho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; hereafter “JIYUKOBO”), effective November 1, 2025.
Purpose of the Merger
Founded in 1989 and integrated into the Morisawa Group in March 2019, JIYUKOBO has contributed to the development of several joint projects, including the “Shaken Revised Typeface.”
This merger aims to further strengthen Morisawa’s ability to respond to rapid changes in the type industry and the increasing demands of global markets. By streamlining our development structure and accelerating decision-making, we aim to deliver a wider and more diverse range of font products with greater speed and consistency.
JIYUKOBO has produced numerous acclaimed typefaces such as “Yu Mincho” and “Yu Gothic,” earning strong support from users across various fields. Morisawa will carry forward the JIYUKOBO brand and integrate the strengths and expertise accumulated by both companies, enabling us to continue offering high-quality, comprehensive font products and services.
Effective Date of Merger
November 1, 2025
All operations and customer support previously handled by JIYUKOBO will now be assumed by Morisawa.
Please note that all JIYUKOBO font products were discontinued as of August 31, 2025.
For continued use of JIYUKOBO typefaces, we encourage customers to access them through Morisawa’s font subscription service, “Morisawa Fonts”.
