Morisawa’s web font service TypeSquare announces its 2024 new offering—including Japanese design fonts perfect for creating worldviews and multilingual fonts suited to deliver global messages.
On October 15, 2024, our web font service TypeSquare releases its new 2024 font selection, including Japanese design fonts perfect for creating worldviews and multilingual fonts suited to deliver global messages, as well as a new series of Shaken Fonts—a total addition of 160 fonts.
As part of the new 2024 offering, we are releasing design fonts that are ideal for creating different worldviews, such as Nijitakotengoku (a heavy-weight typeface inspired by psychedelic art and music), Harukaze (achieving playful impression by a decorative looped stroke) and Teyandee (a fresh take on traditional Edomoji). We also have a wide variety of elegant brush-stoke fonts to choose from, such as Hanagoori built upon an artisan sumi-brush calligraphy. For mincho-style fonts, Keyaki Midashi Mincho (a header font of Keyaki Mincho Oldstyle released in 2023) and Shuei Nijimi Shogo Mincho (a variation from popular Shuei Nijimi series) are new additions to name a few. Don’t miss noteworthy stylized Latin fonts, such as “Heavy” series featuring a uniquely assembled family, that are guaranteed to accent and enhance your designs.
Meanwhile, more multilingual fonts that can accommodate and communicate global information are available. A1 Gothic, an old-style gothic font, now comes with both Simplified and Traditional Chinese characters. Latin Superfamily “Role” is equipped with a new multilingual family to provide major characters used in India and Southeast Asia.
From Hiragino Font, the thinnest weight W0 has been added to popular Koburina Gothic. We have also been collaborating with Sha-Ken Co., Ltd. to convert their iconic fonts into OpenType, and are happy to incorporate Ishii Mincho, Ishii Mincho Oldstyle Kana, Ishii Gothic, as well as a variety of header fonts such as Gona and Nar in this offering.
From Arphic Types, a leading font creator in Taiwan who joined Morisawa Group in 2022, a lineup of Simplified and Traditional Chinese fonts that allow richer expression in Chinese language has been supplemented. AR UDJingxiheiE1 (a universal design font that’s simple and highly legible) and AR ShuYuanSong Text H32 (providing soft yet resilient appearance) are just a few examples of core typefaces Arphic Type can present. AR Mochi H16C90 embodying warm rhythmic movement and AR Xinyi with futuristic atmosphere are the fonts we have used as bases for our Suiryu series. By utilizing with our Japanese fonts Suiryu Kiraboshi or Suiryu Atlas, you can achieve a unified look in designs where both Japanese and Chinese languages are required.
Last but not least, Occupant Fonts based in the US joins us with their Latin font library. Occupant Fonts’ library is led by Cyrus Highsmith who has a long career as a type designer and has been working as a creative director for Morisawa USA since 2017. Here we are introducing a lineup rich in variety, including eye-catching display fonts such as Occupant Gothic and Biscotti. This collection not only offers more options for Latin typesetting, but also broadens your creative freedom by mixed usage with Japanese fonts.
